When I first came up with the idea of WritingClubWorld.com I thought long and hard about how to make it self-supporting.
I knew I wanted it to be free for aspiring writers to use, no matter what their personal circumstances or geographic location.
However, websites cost money and if this website is to grow and grow, continually improving, I had to come up with a way for WritingClubWorld.com to be self-sufficient. If I was not to charge membership fees, that left only Google Ads, but that would be ugly and intrusive.
I’ve always loved the idea of being a “Patron Of The Arts” and indeed, I used to regularly buy the paintings of a local Worthing artist I particularly enjoyed. So I happily paid for the initial development and marketing, becoming the first Patron of WritingClubWorld.com, trusting that an idea would come to me, for the ongoing funding of the site.
Then I was reading something recently (for my own business) and came across the mention of Patreon.com and thought “Eureka! that’s it!”.
